Together they tell the story of the Roberts-Mattison family of Mansfield, Ohio. This is the central site. If you're not interested in Ernie and Harry Roberts, thier family and ancestry, you will find it boring.

The photographs reveal that we're black. Race has trumped every other quality that defines us, as well as our parents and all our relatives and forebears. In the eyes of this society we're not middle class, or college educated or professional engineers. We're black. But it is more than something that we triumphed over. Rather, we we have discovered that black is beautiful. This site is intended to tell that story.

A feature of this site is a link to the pedigree of the Roberts-Mattison family of Mansfield, Ohio. The pedigree reveals that one of the two families, the Mattisons, is descended from slaves. The Roberts side of the family was never enslaved. Black people recognize that as not uncommon. White viewers might be surprised. The story of those two families is developed in the other link--a "blog." Eventually you, the viewers, will be able to respond to that story as it unfolds in the blog.
